A few firsts

Seeing how Adelynn is only seven weeks old (wow--time has gone by so quickly!!), most of what she does and experiences is "a first." This post will hit on a few of those firsts. The captions are below the pictures to which they belong.

We hope you are well and had a blessed Easter!

This picture (I don't know how to flip the picture. I now understand Julie's frustration with the layout of the blogs) represents the first time Adelynn had her diaper changed at church. Adelynn had to eat during church, and they have a nice nursing space with speakers so you can hear the sermon. She took her time eating, and while I was burping her, I felt her fill up her diaper. So, before we headed back into church, I decided to change her diaper. Well, of course, she pooped on her onesie and cute little outfit. Thankfully, I had extra clothes. As I was changing her, she decided to pee--all over her vinyl changing pad. The pee ran all over, including soaking her clothes. I hadn't changed her yet, so that good, but she was covered in pee. I took off her clothes and tried to wipe her up with a wipe because her back was all sticky, and she started screaming. I probably would have, too :). Well, I wiped up the pee with a bib and another diaper, got her changed, and walked her two dirty diapers down the hall to throw them away in the bathroom. We headed back to the sanctuary just in time to see everyone file out of church.

The picture came in after I saw that she had pooped on her clothes. I quickly took it before I changed her diaper. This is one of my favorite outfits--thanks Amy--and I knew it would be the last time she could wear it because she had outgrown it, and I wanted to get a few pictures. Good thing I had my camera!

This is the first shirt that Adelynn got. Aunt Dena bought it long before she was born.

Adelynn enjoyed her first Final Four games--Go State!! In the bracket she filled out with mom, she helped picked State to go to the Final Four (thanks Grandpa Visser--he called it at the beginning of the season). To bad we didn't have more faith in the Spartans to go to the final game.

This has nothing to do with Adelynn, but this is a blast from the past picture of Michael and I in Chicago the last time State was in the Final Four. We weren't even engaged in this picture--how our lives have changed! The Steve and Barry's clothing purchases have served us well through the years, though.

Adelynn watched her first, of many, regular season Tigers game with Grandpa. She also watched the NCAA championship game with him. Unfortunately, they both lost, but she still enjoyed the night. Grandpa began to work on her throwing motion--pitcher maybe?

This outfit is the first outfit she wore, and the first outfit Mike and I bought for her before she was born. I don't know how well the pictures show it, but when we took her home from the hospital, the outfit was HUGE--her legs barely stayed in the leg holes (is that the right terminology?), now it almost doesn't fit.

Adelynn has made a few trips to the mall, but this time we went to see the Easter bunny. She had a cute little pink outfit on, but as we were waiting in line, we saw that she--again--pooped through her clothes. It was really bad! So, we changed her clothes, got back in line, and got our Easter bunny pictures.

Grandma Great baby-sat Adelynn for the first time so I could go to the store. I couldn't resist the picture with Adelynn's arm around Grandma's.

Adelynn made her first trip to Build a Bear with Grandma, Aunt Lynn and myself. Believe it or not, Uncle Ryan and Grandpa didn't want to come along and Daddy was working :). Grandma, Grandpa and Aunt Dena got Adelynn this Tiger's bear as her Easter present. His name is Gibby--named after Mom's favorite Tiger. Adelynn (or Mom) was excited to add the bear to her Tiger's themed nursery.

We had a wonderful Easter--a great church service and a great time with family. God is so good, and we are so thankful for all the blessings He has given us--most importantly, the gift of salvation. We were reminded, too, what a huge gift Adelynn is.

She looked so cute going to church in her Easter outfit and Easter bonnet. The tights and shoes were way too big, but looked cute anyway. Thank you Great-Aunt Karen and Great-Uncle Buzz for the beautiful dress and cute first Easter sleeper, and thank you Mr. and Mrs. Smith for the sweater and Easter bonnet.

The Easter Bunny was especially nice and generous to Adelynn. The Jenison Easter Bunny got her a Care Bear, tights (way too big) and shoes (way too big). The other Jenison Easter Bunny came a little early and brought her Gibby, the Tiger. The West Olive Easter Bunny brought Adelynn her first baby doll and a chocolate "B"--keeping with Dornbos tradition. The Fort Wayne Easter Bunny even made a trip and dropped off a little ducky for Adelynn.

Our last first, for this blog at least, is a picture of Adelynn's first band-aids. She got her first set of shots this past week. She was a tough little trooper. Even though she cried like crazy when she got the shots, she stopped crying as soon as I picked her up (or when she got her pacifier, but I like to think it was when I picked her up). I'm sure I was much more traumatized than Adelynn because later in the day, she started smiling and cooing at the same time--not giggles, just "happy noises." This definitely made Mom feel better about the whole shot thing.
